Ask yourself this question, who do you depend on ? and be honest with your reply, you know what you should say yes?, God!, but if your brutally honest with yourself, you know that isn't completely true, sure you might depend on God for the things you've specifically laid at the foot of the cross, those troublesome issues your struggling with, or feel are out of your immediate control, after all were taught to Give it to God right, let him fight that battle, but apart from these special God requests, we purposely lay at his door, the rest of our lives WE deal with, we therefor depend on ourselves. And that is a BIG problem.
If we look up the most appropriate definitions of dependence it is;
To truly depend on someone we must have total confidence in both them and their ability, When you depend on something absolutely completely you cannot do with out it, your dependency on that thing can be so complete, that your utterly lost without it, without it's presence, without it's direction it's guidance, without its rewards. and that's true of all dependency wether its a person a thing or a need.
When we first believed in Jesus Christ, repented and confessed our sin, an chose to accept him as our saviour and Lord, in that very moment, when we were placed within Christ, we were anointed with Gods Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit descended and in-dwelt you in that very first minute.
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the action by which God takes up permanent residence in the body of a believer in Jesus Christ.
This act is extremely important and our acceptance of that act is more so, we can know superficially that we have the Holy Spirit within us, after all we regularly ask for His help, and guidance for Him to display His presence.
Yet take a minute to really think about what this means... to have GOD within you, how profound is that, how amazing is that, to have the power of God at your disposal, yet most of us never take full advantage of it, nor realise we can.
God requires us to fully and completely depend upon His Holy Spirt in everything, in every-way everyday, to definitively surrender our will, our control, our plans, our independence, our desires, ourselves. If we really depend upon the Holy Spirit, then He will determine what we say, how we act and how we live, rather than us.
God always acts in the best interests of our higher good, He is 110% dependable 110% of the time, (Proverbs 3:5-6) says; Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
When we depend upon the Spirit, He causes us to walk in His ways, God doesn't want us doing anything outside of his will, the Holy Spirit enables us to abide within God and fulfill completely His will, but only when we manage to surrender to Him totally. Jesus said; apart from me you can do nothing, so then anything we do when apart from Him means absolutely nothing, when we walk in the Spirit, we walk in Christ, when we live by the Spirit we live as Christ.
(2 Corinthians 13,14) It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Faith, If we want to grow and succeed in our faith then we need to depend more fully on the Spirit of faith, for the Holy Spirit IS the seat of our faith, the Holy Spirit is also the Spirit of Love, again, the more fully we depend upon the Spirit of Love the more we are able to express Gods love through our lives.
You know all the way through our lives, we are taught to strive for independence, for it brings with it freedom and self determination, the ability to act upon our will and our choices to walk our path, all in-order for us to achieve the fulfilment of our unwritten destiny, through the acquisition of power and acclaim, for this we are assured encompasses untold reward. And So It Does!
For as long as i continue to think of myself as God it is my independent attributes and innate abilities i rely upon, after all, who can we trust more than ourselves?.
When then we choose to give our lives to Christ, do we not give ourselves fully? We are not His then, of course we are.
We are required to give ourselves to Him completely, we are no longer independent but fully dependent. So in all things we defer to Christ, to Him to His will to His Spirit, we seed our control to God, we surrender to Him completely.
We have never really owned our lives anyway, we've always belonged to our creator, were we not created in His image? when we were made it was God's Spirit our soul and flesh we were formed around, for God says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, So God knew us before the womb before we were formed into flesh, to be right with God (Righteous) is to acknowledge Gods superiority in ALL things, that my friends includes "Self" we were never created to be independent that was Satans big lie, He beguiled Eve for whom Adam chose to appease, through mans very first act of independence, Adam chose to to take the authority from God, and become his own God, from dependency on God to dependency (IN) himself. (in-dependent)
Contrast that choice with Jesus's choice in the garden of Gethsemane, (Luke 22:42) “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Jesus chose not only to obey God, He chose to defer fully to God's will, Jesus Christ was always dependent upon his father, He never once acted independently of God, (Mathew 3:17) And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
When we meet God in His glory, is it not these words we will hope to hear ? (Mathew 25:23) “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
How much fruit we receive from our out working of Gods will (our Prayer, Ministry act.) is directly related to our level of dependency upon the Holy Spirit, Every born again Christian has been anointed with the Holy Spirit, most have even been baptized in Him and filled to overflowing with His power His love and his presence.
Stop depending on your self! depend upon The Holy Spirit within you, totally and unequivocally its your fathers command.
